경영전략과 ESG등급이 투자효율성에 미치는 영향

초록

본 연구는 경영전략과 ESG 등급이 투자효율성에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 경영전략은 Miles and Snow(1978, 2003)의 연구를 바탕으로 공격형 전략과 방어형 전략으로 구분하였으며, 투자효율성은 Biddle et al.(2009)로 측정하였다. 연구기간은 2016-2022년까지이며, 표본 수는 4,447개이며, 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 경영전략지수는 투자효율성에 양의 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 확인하였다. 그리고 공격적 전략 기업은 투자효율성에 양의 영향을 미치고 있으나, 방어적 전략기업은 투자효율성에 음의 영향을 나타내고 있는 것을 확인하였다. 둘째, 경영전략지수와 ESG 등급의 상호작용효과가 투자효율성에 음의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 ESG 등급과 공격적 경영전략지수의 상호작용효과변수는 투자효율성에 음의 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 ESG 등급과 방어적 경영전략지수의 상호작용효과변수도 투자효율성에 음의 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 경영전략과 ESG 등급의 상호작용효과를 검증함으로써 기업의 ESG 경영활동의 중요성을 증명하였으며, 정부당국의 정책수립에 필요한 가이드라인을 제공하고, 투자자의 의사결정에 유용한 정보를 제공할 것이다. 또한 기업의 경영자에게 ESG 경영활동으로 불필요한 투자 또는 과대투자를 억제하여 지속적인 경영활동에 도움을 줄 것으로 기대된다.

Abstract

This study studied the effects of management strategy and ESG rating on investment efficiency. Management strategies were divided into prospector strategies and defender strategies based on the research of Miles and Snow(1978, 2003), and investment efficiency was measured by Biddle et al.(2009). The results of the study are as follows. First, it was confirmed that the management strategy index had a positive effect on investment efficiency. In addition, it was confirmed that prospector strategic companies had a positive effect on investment efficiency, but defender strategic companies had a negative effect on investment efficiency. Second, it was found that the interaction effect between the management strategy index and the ESG rating had a negative effect on investment efficiency. The interaction effect variable between the ESG rating and the prospector strategy index was found to have a negative effect on investment efficiency. In addition, the interaction effect variable between the ESG rating and the defender strategy index was also found to have a negative effect on investment efficiency. This study proved the importance of ESG activities of companies by verifying the interaction effect between management strategy and ESG rating, will provide guidelines necessary for government authorities' policy-making, and will provide useful information for investors' decision-making. In addition, it is expected to help corporate managers continue management activities by suppressing unnecessary investment or overinvestment through ESG activities.
