Abstract
Efects of Community-based Programs on the Quality of Life of B reast Cancer SurvivorsJung Won Lim1, In Young Han2University of Southern California1, Ewha Womans University2Background With advances in health care, the survival rate for breast cancer has significantly increased. As a result, this caused the issues related social adjustment and quality of life for breast cancer survivors. Here, the thirteen evaluation studies (1980-2003) was critically reviewed, and comunity-based programs included screning, psychosocial suport, education, cognitive/behaviora l therapy, palliative care, and eclectic programs. Results Findings show that 12 articles measured outcomes in the psychological domain of QOL, 8 the physical domain, 6 the social domain, and 1 the spiritual domain. Results acording to the stage of breast cancer survivorship showed screning programs were effective in improving QOL outcomes among women at r i s k f o r b r e a s t c a n c e r , p s y c h o s o c i a l s u p o r t a n d cognitive/behavioral programs improved QOL for those in the acut e s u r v i v a l s t a g e , a n d e d u c a t i o n p r o g r a m s p o s i t i v e l y impacted QOL acros all stages of illnes. Conclusions This study suggested that the current needs and concerns of breast cancer survivors must be established a priority,
