Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Kinesio taping application on balance and gait ability in hemiplegic disables, and to present a method to facilitate the active exercise rehabilitation program. Subjects were 8 hemiplegic disables after cerebral stroke. Kinesio taping was applied on gluteus medius, gluteus maximus, psoas major, tibialis anterior, and transverse abdominis muscles in affected side. Balance and gait ability was measured repeatedly before and after Kinesio taping application. Cross-over design was applied to experiment, and paired t-test was used statistically. As a result, the balance ability related variables as like the score in Berg balance scale (p<.01), the duration time in one leg balance with open eyes at affected side (p<.05) and at unaffected side (p<.01), the necessary time in turn 360° to affected side (p<.05) and to unaffected side (p<.05), the necessary time in stool touch (p<.05), and the gait ability related variables as like velocity (p<.01), cadence (p<.05), stride and step length in unaffected side foot (p<.05) were significantly changed positively after Kinesio taping application. In conclusion, Kinesio taping application was seemed to be effective on the improvement of balance and gait ability in hemiplegic disables. Therefore, it is suggested that Kinesio taping application should be one of the potential methods to facilitate the active exercise rehabilitation program for hemiplegic disables.
