Abstract
In this study, based on the data of actual physical condition gathered in 2017, physical fitness level of the elderly according to their level of hypertension and body mass index (BMI) was analyzed and quantified to construct a more scientific resource for public health promotion and to be utilized as fundamental data to inform the importance of improving physical fitness level to prevent blood pressure and maintain proper body mass index. This study was conducted on 908 elderly people aged 65 years or older. Hypertension was categorized into normal group (240 people), early hypertensive stage group (419 people), and first stage hypertension group (249 people) and body mass index was divided into underweight group (19 people), normal weight group (263 people), overweight group (270 people), first stage obesity group (325 people), second stage obesity group (28 people), and third stage obesity group (3 people). Muscle strength, muscular endurance, balance, flexibility, cardiorespiratory endurance were measured as the fitness factors. We conducted analysis using the one way ANOVA using SPSS/PC + Win21.0 Version. The level of significance was validated at the level of p<0.05. The results showed a significant correlation between hypertension, muscle strength, muscular endurance and cardiorespiratory endurance and muscular endurance, balance, cardiorespiratory endurance were significantly correlated with the body mass index level(p<0.05). Thus, physical fitness level was different depending on the level of hypertension and body mass index.
