Abstract

This study verified changes of body composition, basic physical fitness, gait ability and lower muscle strength by conducting high-intensity interval training(HIIT) using robotic assisted for 4 weeks in subacute stroke patients(n=15). The subjects were hospitalized stroke patients in their 30-60yrs and HIIT using a gait robotic assisted device. For data analysis, a normality test was performed, followed by a paired t test for body composition and a repeated measures one-way analysis of variance for other variables(a≤.05). As a results, body composition showed a tendency for muscle mass to increase post(p=.080). Among basic physical fitness, balance and TUG both improved significantly Post the compared to Pre(p<.01). In gait ability using robotic device, stride(p<.05), speed(p<.001) and number of steps(/min)(p<.001) increased to a very significant level Post. Isometric lower muscle strength showed a tendency or a significant level of increase in both the affected & unaffected sides of the hip and thighs in the post(p= .069-.001). Therefore, 4 weeks of HIIT using a gait robotic is considered to be a very effective exercise method for improving gait and lower muscle strength in post stroke patients. In this study, the absence of the control group and the increased sample size are factors that should be complement in follow-up research.
