Abstract
Trans-modernity : Beyond Regional BorderCha Tae GeunWe have been often be in a predicament of language in the studying modernity of East Asia. This rests his theory on some basic premises: west=modern, non-west=premodern, west= progression, non-west=falling behind (stagnation) which were built up in the late 18th century. Some people criticized these premises, but it is very hard to deny relative falling behind (stagnation) in the real world. The problem is on the false notion of these region in the beginning phase.This article will demonstrate that What a man calls western modernity is not a result of indigenous development, but a product which West and Non West have been making together. Many enlightenmentists regarded china as reform model of West. This article also suggest that We get out of regional border or region-centrism and appreciate "trans-modernity".
