Abstract
Becoming distinguished in the Chinese literary circle through publication of ‘Hou-Tu’ faction-related short stories in the mid-1980s, Li Rui is one of the representing authors of Lost-generation in China. Instead of classifying short stories of ‘Hou-Tu’ faction as Xun-Gen literary trend, analyzing Li Rui from anauthorial standpoint, that is to interpret it as a sketch of striking union between intellectual young manas an illuminator and biased rural community, would be considered a more appropriate perspective. This is demonstrated in Wu Feng Zhi Shuand Wan Li Wu Yun as it depicts falling behind and farmers' ignorance at an ocher mountainous district of Lv-Liang mountain influentially obstructing revolutionary ideology and enlightening discourse. Through this, he also introduced issues related to executing socialist modernity and role of a revolutionary intellectual as an illuminator. Author’s consciousness of such issues expressed, in Jiu Zhi through comparison between the illiterate person and the revolutionary intellectual (illuminator), a tragedy of moral walk of life the illuminator chose in order to realize the ideal that the fitting revolutionary history presents. If <Jiu Zhi> transcended the revolutionary history of the periods before and after establishing the Chinese socialist state, <Yin Cheng Gu Shi> constructed the author’s historical view by retracing the periods until Wu-Si revolution. This is described through the affirmation toward traditional gentry’s culture to which Wu-Si revolution was inhospitable and secularly ordinary civil culture.
