본고는 조선 중기 문인지식인 柳夢寅(1559~1623)의 작품 「한 선비와 하늘의 다툼에 관한 부(一士與天爭賦)」를 중심으로 그의 天人觀을 검토한다. 이를 통해 근대 이전의 중세 동아시아에서 ‘자연을 넘어서려는 인간’이라는 존재양태가 출현하게 된 사상적 의미를 시론적으로 살펴본다. 여기에는 하늘과 인간의 극단적인 불화와 대립이 전면적으로 드러나 있다는 점에서, 동중서의 ‘天人相關說’과 유종원의 ‘天人無關論’ 및 유우석의 ‘人能勝天論’에 이어 이른바 ‘天人相爭論’이라 명명할 만한 사유가 담겨 있다. 유몽인은 꿈속에서 목도한 ‘文天祥과 上帝의 다툼’이라는 夢遊錄의 상상적 형식을 통해 ‘理念과 天命의 다툼’을 쟁점화한 것이다. 이러한 ‘천명에 대항하는 인간’형은 근대의 것으로 간주되었던 ‘자연을 넘어서려는 인간’의 중세 동아시아적 형태라 할 수 있다.
Abstract
In this thesis, I explore Yu Mong-in(柳夢寅)’s the Thought of Heaven and Human being(天人觀) focusing on 《The Bu(賦) of Conflict between one Seonbi(士, Classical Scholar) and Heaven(天)(一士與天爭賦)》. and I explore the thought historical meaning of the appearance of So-called “the human who is going to go beyond nature” in the medieval East Asia before the modern era. In this piece of work, the extreme discord and confrontation of the Heaven and the Human being are fully revealed. There is a reason to call it the so-called “The thought of conflict between Heaven and Human beings(天人相爭論)” adding “the thought of unity of Heaven and Human being(天人相關說)” of Dong Zhong-Shu(董仲舒) and “the thought of disrelation of Heaven and Human being(天人無關論)” of Liu Zong-yuan(柳宗元), and “the thought of human being who overcomes the Heaven(人能勝天論)” of Liu Yu-xi(劉禹錫). This type of “Human being against the mandate from Heaven(天命)” is a medieval East Asian form of “the human who is going to go beyond nature” which was regarded as modern.
