Abstract
This study reestablished the concept of mixed emotions experienced in online and offline shopping environments, and structuralized emotional responses which manifest mixed emotions in each channel, and developed a method of measuring overall mixed emotions in consideration of the asymmetry of emotions. Also, this study investigated the influencing relationship between the effect of mixed emotions induced in online and offline shopping environments on consumer response and the related factors. The results of the research can be summarized as follows. In the first phase, qualitative and quantitative researches were conducted to derive major emotional responses items which manifest mixed emotions in online and offline shopping environments and determine differential emotional structure in each channel. As a result, it was confirmed that mixed emotions consisted of 5 factors in each channel and 21 emotional responses. In addition, a method of measuring overall mixed emotions considering the asymmetric of emotions was developed to prove the difference in behavioral responses. In the second phase, we observed the influence of mixed emotions on behavioral responses and confirmed the moderating effects of overall mixed emotions and emotional sensitivity. The verification of Hypothesis 1 confirmed that in the case of consumers considered a purchase through the offline channel, there was a greater difference in product attitude, purchase intention, and complaint behavior according to mixed emotions than in the case of consumers considering a purchase through the online channel. The verification of Hypothesis 2 confirmed that the moderating effect of overall mixed emotions depending on mixed emotions was significant when consumers considered a purchase through the online channel while the moderating effect of overall mixed emotions was not significant in offline channel. The verification of Hypothesis 3 confirmed that the moderating effect of emotional sensitivity depending on mixed emotions was significant when the consumer considered a purchase through the offline channel while the moderating effect of emotional sensitivity was not significant in online channel. Based on these results, the study provided valuable theoretical and managerial implications and directions for future research.
