도시 주부의 소비생활세계 : 일상 소비생활 경험을 중심으로

초록

논리실증주의에서 소외되었던 인간 경험의 근원인 Husserl의 ‘셍활세계’ 개념을 현대 소비자의 소비생활세계에 적용하여 탐색하기 위해 Csikszentmihalyi교수의 일상생활 경험 분석틀과 경험표집법(ESM)을 적용하여 서울시에 거주하는 전업주부 30～40대 24명의 일상 소비생활 경험을 분석하였다. 소비자의 일상 소비경험을 크게 구조 혹은 패턴과 그 구조와 패턴 속에서 어떤 감정적 실재를 경험하는 가로 나누어 소비자가 어디에서(location) 어떤 활동을(activity) 누구와(companion) 함께 하는지에 관한 외적 구조와 각각의 활동에서 무엇을 느끼고(emotion) 무엇을 생각하며(cognition) 어떤 동기(motivation)가 작용하는가에 관한 내적 경험을 파악하였다. 이를 위해 휴대폰을 휴대한 연구 참여자들이 대략 2시간 간격으로 문자 메시지를 받을 때 마다 미리 배포한 응답지에 응답하는 반복적인 과정을 하루 8회 일주인간 진행하여 총 56회의 응답을 수집하였다. 연구결과, 도시주부의 소비생활세계는 구체적인 가족생활의 반복적이고 친숙한 경험의 세계 속에서 이웃이나 친구와의 친교와 외식이나 쇼핑을 통한 재미있고 즐거운 색다른 경험으로 채워진다는 상식적 지식을 확인하였다. 뿐만 아니라 자기 자신을 위한 쇼핑이 도시주부에게 가장 높은 긍정적 감정을 유발하고 활발한 인지활동을 불러일으키며 그 어떤 일상 활동보다도 순수하게 재미있고 즐거운 내재적 동기가 작용한다는 것을 발견하였다. 이러한 결과는 자기 자신을 위한 쇼핑이 도시주부에게 질 높은 내적 경험을 제공하는 매우 중요한 활동으로서 쇼핑은 도시주부의 소비생활에서 매우 중요한 의미를 담고 있음을 시사한다.

Abstract

In order to apply Husserl's life world concept in consumption life-world of contemporary consumers, daily consumption lives of twenty four housewives in 30's and 40's are analyzed by Csikszentmihalyi's analytic framework of daily life and the experience sampling method. The daily consumption experience is divided into structure or pattern and the emotional experiences in the structure and, therefore, the former is composed of location, activity and companion and the latter is composed of emotion, cognition and motivation. The participants carried mobile phones for a week and received messages about every 2 hours per day for replying the prepared questionnaires within 15 minutes. The results of this study indicate that the consumption life world of housewives is composed of repetitive intimate family life experience and enjoyable extra experience from meetings of friends or neighbors and shopping. Shopping for herself gives the most positive emotions and cognitive activities and is the source of purely happy and enjoyable experience with intrinsic motivation. This result implies that shopping has very important meaning for housewives and gives them a high quality internal experience.
