Abstract

This study systematically examines whether the five dimensions of customer experience inthe metaverse - sensory, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and relational experiences - enhanceusers' perceptions of physical, social, and self-presence, and whether these heightened sensesof presence lead to increased metaverse engagement, ultimately improving customer loyalty tothe ifland metaverse platform. The results indicate that all five customer experience dimensionspositively influence all three types of presence. However, only social presence significantlyaffects customer loyalty through engagement. Sensory, cognitive, and relational experiences candirectly boost customer loyalty without mediation by presence or engagement. This suggeststhat metaverse platforms focusing on social interaction should enhance customers’ sensory, cognitive, and relational experiences to improve loyalty. In overall, social presence and metaverseengagement act as partial mediators between customer experience and loyalty. The studycontributes to the theoretical understanding of metaverse customer behavior by incorporatingSchmitt’s (1999) experience marketing framework. It offers insights for metaverse serviceproviders on the importance of enhancing multidimensional customer experiences and focusingon social presence to increase engagement and loyalty.
