Abstract
The Cultural Turn in the Study of Modern Chinese Literature in PRC, since 1990s Park Ja YoungMy Thesis is concentrated on the cultural turn in the study of modern chinese literature after 1990s. First, I discuss on the how "culture" discourse is constructed, and what it's characteristic is. Especially I deal with the problems of High Culture Fever in 1980s as the important phenomenon and prehistory of cultural studies. Second, I describe the new questionable reality and discourse which keeps pace with the uprising of "mass/popular culture" after 1992. Finally, I explain the formation and characteristic of "cultural studies" in PRC, which appears on the horizon as the byproduct of discussions in 1990s. Through this analysis, I explain the advent of cultural studies in 1990s revises the "culture" idea of 1980s which is characteristic of traditional, abstract and macro concept and makes the mass/popular culture subject of investigation. And this cultural turn to contemporary particular reality includes reflection and renewal of the age in connected with the discourse of 1980s, and attempts to critically intervene in the reality and discourse of 1990s and remap the new discourse.
