수사학 ‘알레고리’를 통한 21세기 도자미술의 시각언어 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the visual language newly represented in the twenty-first century world ceramic art through allegorical rhetoric and to establish the causes of the expansion of the visual language of the twenty-first century ceramic art through examining the allegorical trends of ceramic art that has been ongoing differently from pure art. As the research method, literature research was conducted centering on allegory discourses by Walter Benjamin, Paul de Man, and Craig Owens, and the writers to be analyzed for empirical cases were selected from the writers who use the visual methodology of “allegory” among the writers introduced in modern ceramic art archives(artaxis, accessceramics) and ceramic art magazines(American Ceramics, Ceramic Monthly, New Ceramics). The writers who appeared in the modern ceramic art through the past researches were classified according to the methodologies of borrowing, place-specificity, and the works of these artists have the rhetorical characteristics of allegory, which are “historicity,” “reiteration of texts,” “melancholy,” “arbitrariness,” “temporality,” and “abstruseness” in common. In conclusion, it was found that the expansion of the twenty-first century modern ceramic art visual language was achieved through the rhetoric called “allegory” and it has the ceramic art’s own characteristics that accommodate the diverse visual methodologies of pure art compared with the twenty-first century but do not lose respect for the tradition of crafts.
