현대인에게 있어 스마트폰과 같은 개인용 기기는 그 어느 때보다 개인의 삶과 밀접한 관계를 가지는 기기이다. 이것은 일상생활은 물론, 업무에서도 활용되고 있고 이와 발맞춰 하드웨어의 처리속도와 사용,보관되는 데이터의 양은 폭발적으로 증가하고 있다. 현재, 데이터의 백업&보관 기능은 개인용 기기에서 뺴놓을 수 없는 필수기능이 되었다. 해당 기능에 대한 기술적인 연구들은 일어나고 있지만, 사용자의 관점에서 그들의 니즈를 파악하는 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 개인용 기기의 데이터 보관 및 복구를 담당하는 백업&복원 기능 및 서비스에 대한 니즈와 멘탈 모델을 규명하기로 하였다. 연구대상은 대표적인 개인용 기기로 알려진 개인용 컴퓨터와 스마트폰으로 하였다. 연구방법으로는 설문조사와 인터뷰를 이용하였으며, 설문조사의 경우 실사용자 200~ 400여명을 대상으로 기기 그리고 해당기능의 사용행태와 인식 등을 알아보았고, 인터뷰의 경우 최근 6~12개월 이내에 스마트폰이나 컴퓨터를 교체한 사용자 12명을 대상으로 회상적 기법을 이용한 심층인터뷰를 진행하였다. 설문조사를 통해 사용자들이 우선적으로 복구하고 싶어 하는 데이터의 종류들을 규명하였으며, 평소 자동으로 백업되는 기능을 많이 이용하는 것을 발견하였다. 설문을 기반으로 진행된 인터뷰를 통해 사용자들은 데이터를 보관 하는 것과 복원/복구에 있어 다른 니즈를 가지고 있음을 발견할 수 있었다. 이는 상황과 목적에 따라 사용자들의 멘탈 모델이 다르게 형성되어 있음을 나타내는 결과였고 이를 바탕으로 개인용 기기의 백업&복원에 대한 멘탈 모델을 구체화시킬 수 있었다. 이는 일반적으로 제공되는 백업&복원 서비스들이 사용자의 이용 상황에 대한 구별이 없거나 한 가지 상황만을 고려해 설계되어 있는 상황에서 중요한 의미를 가진다고 볼 수 있다. 해당 연구를 통해 데이터 보관과 데이터 복구에 대한 명확한 구별 그리고, 유기적인 서비스가 기획되어야 함을 규명할 수 있었다.
Abstract
For modern people, personal devices such as smart phones are more closely related to personal lives than ever before. This is being used in daily life as well as in business, and in parallel with this, the processing speed of the hardware, the amount of data to be used and archived is increasing explosively. Presently, backup and archiving of data has become an essential function that can not be left unattended on personal devices. Technical studies of the function are taking place, but there is a lack of research to grasp their needs from the user's point of view. Therefore, this study is to identify needs and mental models of backup and restoration functions and services for data storage and recovery of personal devices. The main research subject is a personal computer and a smartphone known as a personal device. As a method of research, using questionnaire surveys and interviews, in the case of surveys, it is necessary to know about 200 to 400 people in real users, know the usage forms and recognition of devices and their functions, Within 12 months, we conducted a deep interview using reminiscent techniques for 12 users who exchanged smartphones or computers. Based on the results of this survey, we found that users usually use the function to recover data automatically because there are data types that users want to recover in order of priority. Through an interview based on the results of the survey, the user indicated that the data storage needs and the data recovery needs are different. The results show that it can be constructed in different ways based on the situation or purpose that a mental model user has. Based on this, a mental model of data backup and recovery from personal devices is realized. It is important to recognize the situation that backup and recovery services are usually designed without understanding user usage or considering only one aspect. In this survey, I was able to investigate the need to design a clear distinction between data storage and recovery and systematic service.
