Abstract

Modern humans have caused serious environmental pollution and industrial waste problems due to accelerated industrialization and thoughtless mass production, consciousness of crisis of the quality of human life has emerged due to this, and there has been growing interest in environment. Therefore, this study tries to overcome limits of bias against the existing recycled products, improve the value of aesthetic fashion marketability, and shed new light on a new possibility of recycling waste positively by thinking that commercialization of vast amounts of clothing waste thrown out every year is insufficient and there are few preceding studies on upcycling of secondhand clothes and studying upcycling fashion design on the basis of the concept of sustainability which has come to the fore in society at large. And the purpose of the study is to make a contribution to development of sustainablity in the fashion design field, revitalize upcycling fashion design with the high aesthetic value, and suggest design plans. The research method studied the theoretical background and concept of upcycling based on the viewpoint of design of sustainability, analyzed the expression method and techniques to be applied to features and work design through the relevant precedent studies and examples, and drew 'the method to dismantle and compose the inside' which means that dismantlement and reconstruction are all done in an item based on this. The method was applied to male suit jackets collected and selected based on this, total 4 upcyling fashion designs were developed, and the actual works of arts were produced. The positive possibility of upcycling fashion design could be presented through this. And the researcher hopes that research and development of creative and practical upcycling fashion design products which use secondhand clothes will continuously be done in the future.
