일본의 친환경적인 공공미술 작품으로 탈바꿈한 폐도자기에 대한 사례 분석 및 고찰

도자기(陶磁器)는 다른 재질에 비해 수명이 길고 위생적이고 변형되기 어렵고 내열성과 절연성이 뛰어나기 때문에 생활식기 이외의 다양한 용도로 사용할 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있다. 하지만, 한번 깨지거나 불량품이 발생하게 되면 더 이상 사용이 불가능한 폐도자기(廢陶磁器)로 전락하게 된다. 문제는 도자기는 재활용이 되지 않는불연성 쓰레기로 분류되어 토지매립에 의해서 처리되고 있으나, 자연 처리되는데 매우 오랜 시간이 걸리는 등환경에 미치는 부정적인 영향이 비교적 크다. 그래서 일본에서는 예술분야에서 오래전부터 폐도자기를 재활용한 공공미술작품이 광범위하고 다양한 장소에 확대되고 있다. 한국에서도 폐도자기를 재활용한 공공미술의 활동이 이루어지고 있으나, 지금보다 좀 더 광범위하고 다양한 장소·용도까지 확대되어 환경문제해결과 공공미술의 발전 등에 조금이나마 도움과 참고가 되고자 하는 목적을 두고 연구를 하게 되었다. 본 연구자는 일본의 사례연구를 중심으로 해서, 한국에 적용할 만한 지역이나 분야 등을 분석하고 환경문제 해결의 실마리, 폐도자기의 활용범위 확대, 폐도자기에 대한 새로운 인식 변화 등의 가능성을 제시하고자 한다. 연구방법은 문헌연구와현장방문, 인터넷사이트 등을 통해 폐도자기로 인한 환경문제에 대한 지식을 학습하고 일본의 폐도자기의 재활용 사례에 관한 자료를 수집하였다. 폐도자기는 더 이상 인류의 골칫거리의 대상이 아닌, 도자기의 또 다른 매력과 새롭게 탄생할 예술작품이라는 긍정적인 시각이 주류 시각으로 정착될 것이다. 그리고 한국도자기의 발전과 함께 폐도자기의 재활용을 포함한 친환경적인 한국미술로 발전하는 데에 기여할 것이다.
Abstract
Pottery lasts longer than other materials, is sanitary, is not transformed easily and has great heat-resisting and electrical insulating properties. For such reasons, pottery can be used for various purposes other than for tableware. However, once pottery is broken or defective, it degenerates into waste pottery, which is no longer available. The problem is that generally waste pottery is buried in the ground since it is a kind of incombustible waste, which is not recyclable. In addition, it has an extremely negative effect on environments, which takes a very long time to be naturally disposed of. Therefore, public art works recycling waste pottery have been expanded to broad and diverse places in Japan since a long time ago. Although public art activities recycling waste pottery have been carried out as well in Korea, apply these activities to broader and more diverse places and purposes than now is needed. In this regard, this study aims to make a significant contribution to the improvement of environmental issues and the development of public art. To achieve the study purpose, based on case studies in Japan, this study analyzes the regions or the fields in Korea where public art works can be applied, and offers clues to environmental issues and the possibility of expanding the scope of using waste pottery and changing to new awareness of waste pottery. For this study, knowledge of environmental issues were studied through reviewing literature, visiting places and internet sites, and data about waste pottery recycling cases in Japan. It is anticipated that this study will help finding another attraction of pottery, and bring positive viewpoint of waste pottery as a new work of art, not as a trouble to human beings any more. Moreover, this study will contribute to the development in Korean pottery and eco-friendly Korean art, including the recycling of waste pottery.
