Abstract
The purpose of this study is to systematically theorize the criticism and discussion of the glitch art genre and apply it to fashion illustration to derive the characteristics and effects according to the expression technique. As for the research method and scope, a total of 100 fashion illustration works were selected and analyzed based on theoretical considerations using research papers, professional books, and websites on fashion illustration and glitch, and the glitch expression technique that appeared after the 2000s. In visual art, glitches were classified into analog and digital depending on the medium of expression, and were categorized into overlapping, compression, damage, and blurring techniques. The results of case analysis applied to fashion illustration based on categorical techniques are as follows. First, as a result of the expression characteristics, first, the overlapping technique appears as overlapping of double or multiple exposures, repeated overlapping of transparency and opacity, overlapping by moving the location of graphic channels, and incomplete overlapping of abstract images. It has the effect of a sense of space and ambiguous uncertainty. Second, the compression technique appears as stretched or mixed partial compression, different ratio compression, discontinuous rough compression, and incomplete compression, and has the effect of surreal fantasy and tension. Third, the damage technique appears as damage to perfection, distorted damage, damage to graffiti, damage to random pixels, and pixelation of the minimum unit shape, and has effects of playfulness, disorder, uncertainty, and lightness. Fourth, the blurring technique appears as defocusing, blurring the background, applying a digital blur filter, and rough repetitive brush touches, and has an expression effect of immersion, dynamism, abstractness, fluidity of meaning, and ambiguity. In this way, the acceptance of glitches in fashion illustration will accompany the public with new aesthetic experiences and stimulation, and will be able to suggest a new direction for expansion of expression by recognizing errors as another way of creative expression.
