Abstract

The purpose of this study is to clarify the Korean calligraphy style, which is the root of Batangche in terms of the mobility of letter writing. Batangche is mainly used in the main text type and has been settled for a long time, and there are many views that its formative origin is found in Gungche, a brush type formed during the Joseon Dynasty. To be more accurately expressed, in this case, the expression "Haeseoche" or "Hangul-Haeseoche" is used rather than simply "Gungche". However, this expression rather obscures the meaning of the place where Batangche is rooted in Korean calligraphy. This is because "Gungche" and "Haeseoche" are completely different types of writing. Batangche is a typeface refined by influencing from Oryun Haengsildo, Hanseongche No. 4, and Choi Ji-hyuk's No. 2, and although these types have their formative origins, none of them can be considered Gungche. This is because if classified as calligraphy, it is not a Gungche, but rather a written body influenced by the Chinese writing method. To explain this accurately, we looked at China's Haeseoche based on the method of writing, and Unhaebonche compared and analyzed each other, targeting the edition of Oryun Haengsildo, and the Gungche's Okwonjunghoeyeon. In terms of the mobility of writing, the analysis of these two showed that Gungche was a Korean typeface developed by women in the palace, Haeseoche was the formative origin of Chinese refined typeface, and Hangul Haeseoche confirmed through historical sources that it refer to Unhaebonche, which was written by a man among the Korean words influenced by Chines Haeseoche. Taken together, Unhaebonche, which is usually represented by the expression Hangul-Haeseoche, is influenced by the familiar writing technique of writing Chinese characters apart from Gungche, so it can be seen that it has similar properties in terms of the mobility of writing letters. For this reason, it is reasonable to view the morphological origin of Batangche in terms of the mobility of writing as Unhaebonche, not Gungche.
