토마스 사라세노 예술에 나타난 데페이즈망 표현 특성 연구

현대인들의 잃어버린 정신적 가치를 소생시키기 위해 컨셉의 한계를 뛰어넘은 비일상적이고 새로운 기술들이 도입되고 있다. 이는 시각적 표현의 새로운 패러다임을 제공하기 위해 규격화된 질서로부터 벗어난 무한한 확장을 이룬다. 토마스 사라세노는 기존의 반복적인 형식이 아닌 자신만의 예술학적 상상력을 바탕으로 비일상적인 경험을 제공한다. 본 연구는 기존의 공간적 한계를 뛰어넘는 토마스 사라세노의 예술에서 비일상적 경험을 대변하는 초현실주의의 데페이즈망적 표현을 연구 분석한다. 이를 통해 데페이즈망적 표현 특성을 분석함으로써 현대에 다양한 시도로 이루어지는 새로운 공간 창출에 기초자료로 제공하고자 한다. 연구의 방법으로는, 토마스 사라세노의 예술적 배경과 사상을 고찰하고, 데페이즈망의 이론적 고찰과 선행 연구를 바탕으로 하여 연구자의 분석 관점을 제시하였다. 또한, 데페이즈망과 토마스 사라세노의 예술적 공간의 관계성을 증명하기 위해 작품 유형화를 시킨 뒤 사례를 통해 그의 공간에 나타난 데페이즈망적 표현 특성을 분석한다. 사례의 범위는 최근 15년 이내의 토마스 사라세노의 예술적 공간을 대상으로 한다. 연구 결과, 앞선 분석에 따라 도출된 세 가지 특성은 ‘비예측적 관계’. ‘차이의 대립적 관계’, ‘탈 패러다임적 관계’이다. 비예측적 관계는 형태적으로 유기적이고 기하학적 요소로 인해 예측할 수 없는 구조변화의 성질, 차이의 대립적 관계는 재료적 측면에서 이질적 요소를 더해 시각적으로 부각되어 보이는 성질, 탈 패러다임적 관계는 몰입적 측면에서 새로운 경험과 인식을 제공하는 체험적 성질을 가진다. 앞선 분석을 통해 데페이즈망적 표현 특성이 새로운 공간의 흐름과 가능성이 다양하고 혁신적인 방향으로 발전할 수 있음에 공간 창출의 새로운 패러다임적 대안으로 활용되길 기대한다.
Abstract
Extraordinary and new technologies that go beyond the limits of concept are emerging to revive the lost spiritual values of modern people. These technologies expand infinitely and break away from standardized rules to provide a new paradigm of visual expression. Tomas Saraceno pushes the boundaries of the existing repeated formats and offers an extraordinary experience based on his own artistic imagination. This study focused on the surrealistic depaysement expressions that represent extraordinary experience in his artworks. This study analyzed the characteristics of depaysement expression to provide basic data for various modern attempts to create a new space. For research methods, this study examined the artistic background and ideas of Tomas Saraceno and suggested an analytical view based on theoretical considerations and previous studies on depaysement. To prove the relationship between depaysement and his artistic space, this study categorized his artworks and explored different examples to analyze the characteristics of depaysement expression found in his space. This study targeted the artistic spaces that he worked on within the last 15 years. According to analysis results, the three characteristics of depaysement expression are “non-predictive relation,” “confrontational relation of difference,” and “de-paradigmatic relation.” The non-predictive relation involves unexpected structural change due to formatively organic and geometric elements. The confrontational relation of difference is characterized by heterogeneous element in material aspect to make it stand out visually. The de-paradigmatic relation has the experimental characteristic of providing new experience and perception in terms of immersion. The characteristics of depaysement expression contribute to the development of new space’s flow and possibility in diverse and innovative directions, and these characteristics can be utilized as a new paradigmatic alternative for space creation.
