Abstract
The purpose of this study is to apply the Q methodology to categorize the perceptions of yoga wear among women who have practiced yoga and analyze the characteristics of each type. By doing so, this paper aimed to draw implications for yoga wear development. The research method applied was Q methodology to study the subjectivity of individuals' various attitudes and opinions, targeting adult women with experience wearing yoga attire. Adult women’s perceptions of yoga wear were categorized into four types. Type 1 was the “function-oriented pleasure- seeker,” who believed that the fit of the yoga wear was important and that the yoga wear help them do their yoga. They also felt that the functionality of yoga wear was important and perceived them as adding to the enjoyment of exercise. Type 2 was fabric-oriented for other sports', in which the fabric of the yoga clothes was important, and the yoga wear were used for other sports such as hiking, jogging, and riding, and the practicality of the yoga clothes was important. Type 3 was the 'body confidence wearer', who felt confident in their body when wearing yoga wear and preferred yoga wear that shaped their body. They also used yoga wear as going out clothes and emphasized the fit of yoga wear. Type 4 was the “brand-oriented tight-fit preference,” who cared about how their yoga wear looked on others and valued the brand of their yoga wear. They preferred tight-fitting yoga wear and wore professional brands. The first type required the production of functional yoga clothes that enhanced the function of yoga clothes, the second type required the application of materials with enhanced fabric functions, and the third type required the production of designs that could be utilized as outdoor clothes. Type 4 required a smaller pattern dimension through the use of stretch material. Future research should focus on the development of yoga clothes based on perception type.
