초록

Phosphorus (P) is one of the macro nutrient required for growth and development of plants. Deficiency may affect yield of the plants. Insoluble P even if present in soil cannot be used by the plants. However, Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB) are capable of converting P compounds to a soluble form. Therefore, PSB are used as biofertilizer, they are eco-friendly and mitigate the P deficiency of soil. Thus, exploration of efficient strain of PSB as biofertilizer is one of the thrust area. In this study we searched for potential PSB in vermicompost prepared from Spent Mushroom Substrate (SMS) using Esinia fetida. Ten (10) bacterial strains were isolated from the vermicompost and identified using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The capability of P solublization was screened and found that Bacillus sp. (in: firmicutes) strain P4 had highest phosphate solubilization index (1.55), maximum phosphate solubilization (64.6 µg/ml) and exhibited the highest indole acetic acid production (25.6 μg/ml). The study therefore concludes that Bacillus sp. (in: firmicutes) strain P4 as one of the potential phosphate solubilising strain that can be applied as biofertilizer to promote crop growth.
