초록

Candidiasis incidences caused by Candida albicans have been reported to increase globally to severe levels. Treatment of this infectious disease has been through use of anti-fungal compounds, such as fluconazole with many negative side effects, such as allergic reactions. Therefore, in search of other anti-mycotic treatment options, the main objectives of this research were to isolate and identify lactic acid bacteria (LAB) with inhibitory activity against C. albicans and partially elucidate antimycotic compounds produced by LAB. Molecular techniques and GC-MS analysis were undertaken to identify the LABs and elucidate their potential anti-mycotic active compounds, respectively. The results identified two LAB species (Pediococcus pentosaceus and Lacticaseibacillus paracasei) with anti-mycotic activity against C. albicans. Furthermore, compounds produced by L. paracasei (isolate VS29 and HN12), such as Pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazine-1,4-dione, hexahydro, 2,5-Piperazinedione, 3,6-bis(2-methylpropyl), Pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazine-1,4-dione,hexahydro-3- (phenylmethyl), Dodecanoic acid, 1,2,3-propanetriyl ester, and 9-Octadecenoic acid (Z)-, 2-hydroxy-1- (hydroxymethyl)ethyl ester, Pyridine-3-carboxamide, oxime, N-(2-trifluoromethylphenyl), Benzaldehyde, 2- methyl, and 2,4-Di-tert-butylphenol, might have significant role to inhibit the in vitro growth of C. albicans ATCC10231, the causative agent of candidiasis. This study provides novel insights on the capability of LAB inhibitory activity against C. albicans and potential of associated anti-mycotic compounds from this LAB.

This study provides novel insights on the capability of LAB inhibitory activity against C. albicans and potential of associated anti-mycotic compounds from this LAB.
