Synthetic pyrethroid pesticides, particularly cypermethrin, due to their persistence and toxic effects on ecological systems, pose serious environmental challenges. The aim of this study was to isolate microorganisms capable of biologically degrading pesticide residues, specifically cypermethrin, which is considered a significant environmental contaminant, and to investigate their characteristics. The bacterial strain selected for this study belonged to the species Bacillus zhangzhouensis, which demonstrated a high level of tolerance to cypermethrin and the ability to degrade it. The morphological, cultural, and molecularbiological characteristics of the bacterium were thoroughly analyzed, and taxonomic identification was performed based on the nucleotide sequence of the 16S rRNA gene. In laboratory-based experimental studies, the degradation rate of cypermethrin by this strain was evaluated both in the presence and absence of glucose, and the degradation products were identified, including phenol, 3-phenoxybenzoic acid (3-PBA), cyclopropanecarboxylic acid, formic acid, 4-aminobenzoic acid, and 4-(3-dimethylaminopropoxy) benzaldehyde. The results obtained demonstrate the potential of B. zhangzhouensis P as a biological agent for the bioremediation of areas contaminated with cypermethrin. The application of this strain offers opportunities for the development of environmentally safe approaches to the remediation of soil ecosystems polluted with cypermethrin.
