Abstract
With the recent development of information technology, mobile devices are often used to give non-face-to-face gifts called mobile coupons or e-coupon. Kakao Gift, a representative non-face-to-face gift service, is a simple and accessible service that can be easily presented to Kakao friends who do not know their phone numbers or addresses. Gifting is one of the most important economic behavior for humans living in various relationships in society. We exchange gifts for various reasons, such as congratulations, gratitude, goodwill, etc. In particular, using non-face-to-face services such as Kakao Talk gift, the recipient can easily give a reciprocal gift to the sender. The vitalization of these reciprocal gifts has a positive impact on service providers as well as on people's relationships. In this study, we explore reciprocal gifts behavior in non-face-to-face gift-giving in terms of recipients and givers, separately. Studies have shown that reciprocal gifts obligation, positive emotions, and relationship maintenance intention, have a significant positive impact on the recipient's intention to repay gifts. Positive emotions and intimacy with recipients have a significant negative impact on the giver’s expectation of a reciprocal gift. We also consider what new services can be provided from the service provider's point of view to enhance non-face-to-face gift behavior through awareness of these differences.
