Abstract
Purpose: This study demonstrated that market-oriented marketing organizational behavior dimensions of foreign seller influences flexibility norm between exchange parties, and then after the norm influences communication between exchange parties, the opportunistic behavior of local buyer finally can be influenced in the international market of tangible product. Design/methodology/approach: To demonstrate the hypotheses of this study, an empirical study surveying 122 companies of Korean sellers to export tangible products to chinese buyers was conducted. Results/findings: The statistical analysis indicates that while competitor-oriented marketing organizational behavior of Korean seller's market-oriented marketing organizational behavior dimensions has a positive influence on flexibility norm, customer-oriented marketing organizational behavior does not have a positive influence on the flexibility norm. Meanwhile, both of market-oriented marketing organizational behavior dimensions and flexibility norm have positive influences on communication. In addition, the communication has a negative influence on the opportunistic behavior of chinese buyer. Research implications/limitations: This study suggested conceptual framework that market-oriented marketing organizational behavior dimensions of Korean seller influences relational characteristics between exchange parties, and then after relational characteristics change the organizational behavior between exchange parties, relational performance finally can be influenced in exchange relationship between Korean seller and Chinese buyer. As a result, this study is conceptually meaningful in demonstrating more detailed relationship process between exchange parties. Future work/research: Future study to figure out the impacts of other relational norm dimensions or the moderating effects of variables like environmental dynamism dimensions from a diverse theoretical background will be promising. Originality/value: This study firstly demonstrated effectiveness of market-oriented marketing organizational behavior dimensions on relationship marketing variables based on market orientation theory.
