초록

The purpose of the study was to explore Korean EFL students’ attitudes toward English courses focusing on grammar and reading as well as their motivations for learning English as a foreign language in Korea. Leaners’s attitudes and motivations toward the target language are good means to predict the language proficiency of the language learners. The participants consisted of 395 university students and the survey questionnaires were completed during the spring semester, 2013. The SPSS was used to analyze the research questions in the study. The results show that the participants had high scores for integrative motivation rather than instrumental motivation despite the EFL context. In addition, the majority of the participants produced favorable attitudes toward all sub-variables. For future research, we want to explore students’ attitudes toward the curriculum and teachers and then to invent effective programs and curriculum that help the students to increase their attitudes and motivations toward English, the TOEIC test and to develop their English proficiency.
