지방대학 신입생의 진로변경과 학업유지에 영향을 미치는 대학적응 예측요인 분석

본 연구는 지방대학 신입생의 진로변경과 학업유지에 영향을 미치는 대학적응요인을 탐색하고, 학업중도탈락을 예방하는 교육지원책 마련을 제안하는데 목적이 있다. 설문조사는 부산, 경남지역 3개 사립 대학교 1학년 학생 1,169명 대상으로 1학년 학제가 완료된 2022년 12월 중순부터 2023년 1월 중순까지 한 달 간 실시되었다. 수집된 자료는 기술통계분석과 단계적 회귀분석, 로지스틱 회귀분석방법으로 분석하였다. 연구결과는 첫째, 진로변경에 가장 부적 영향을 진로준비행동과 학업적응이었으며, 학업유지에 가장 영향을 미치는 정적 요인은 대학만족도이며, 부적 영향요인은 환경적응, 정서적 적응, 진로적응 모두 예측하는 요인이었다. 즉, 진로준비행동과 학업적응을 잘 하는 학생이 진로변경에 영향을 주며, 대학만족도와 환경적응, 정서적 적응, 진로적응 등은 진로유지에 영향을 주는 것을 의미한다. 둘째, 학업유지를 가장 잘 예측하는 요인은 전반적인 대학적응이었으며, 학업적응과 정서적 적응, 환경적응과 진로적응 하위 요인은 예측비율은 낮으나 수준이 높을수록 학업유지를 할 가능성을 낮추는 것으로 나타났다. 대학에서 신입생의 진로변경과 학업유지에 대한 대학적응의 예측요인을 사전에 파악하는 것은 지방대학 신입생이 대학환경으로 조화롭게 전환하여 고등교육환경에 잘 적응하고 대학부적응 문제를 예방하고 학업을 계속해 지속하는데 도움이 될 것이다. 도출된 연구결과를 기반으로 추후 지역 사립대학 신입생을 위한 대학적응 지원정책 마련에 대한 시사점을 제시하였다.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the university adjustment factors that influence the career change and academic retention of freshmen, and to propose educational support to prevent academic dropout. The survey was conducted for one month from mid-December 2022 to mid-January 2023 on 1,169 first-year students from three private universities in Busan and Gyeongnam. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, stepwise regression analysis, and logistic regression analysis. The main findings were as follows: First, the factors that had the greatest negative impact on career change were career preparation behavior and academic adjustment, while the factor that had the greatest positive impact on academic retention was university satisfaction, and the negative factors were environmental adjustment, emotional adjustment, and career adjustment. This meant that students who perform well in career preparation behavior and academic adjustment were more likely to change their career paths, and university satisfaction, environmental adjustment emotional adjustment, and career adjustment influence academic retention. Next, the factor that best predicted academic retention was overall university adjustment, and higher levels of academic adjustment, emotional adjustment, environmental adjustment, and career adjustment sub-factors, although with lower prediction rates, were associated with a lower likelihood of academic retention. These results suggested that regional private universities need to preemptively identify the university adjustment factors that influence freshmen's career change and academic retention, in order to help regional private university freshmen smoothly transition to the higher education environment, prevent problems with university maladjustment, and support their academic retention. Based on the research findings, the study provides implications for developing university adaptation support policies for regional private university freshmen.
