이 논문은 이즈음 논의가 활발한 ‘사회적 기업’의 성서신학적 기초를 구축하기 위해 ‘오이코노미아’라는 개념을 집중 분석하여 적용하고자 하였다. 신약성서에 꾸준히 등장하는 이 어휘는 ‘청지기 직분’이란 일차적 의미를 아우르는 경제·경영적 의미와 함께 ‘경륜’과 ‘훈육’ ‘섭리’를 뜻하는 신학적 의미를 두루 내포하고 있다. 이러한 의미론적해석 위에서 이 연구는 오이코노미아의 원리가 예수의 비유와 바울 서신의 교훈, 나아가 초대교회의 실제 모습 가운데 어떻게 드러나는지 탐색하였다. 그 결과 추출한 개념이 직분의 공공성, 충만의 경제, 은혜의 경영 등으로 이러한 원리들은 신학과 경제/경영학을 융합적인 관점에서 볼 만한 근거를 제시할 뿐 아니라, 사회적 공익 추구와 현실적 생존을 동시에 도모해야 하는 오늘날 사회적 기업의 현장 속에 요긴하게 접목될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This essay seeks to illuminate the concept of ‘oikonomia’ as a means of setting forth a biblical theological foundation for social enterprise today. This Greek word ‘oikonomia’, which occurs broadly in the New Testament, is translated in various ways that encompass the implications of ‘stewardship’, ‘dispensation’, ‘edification’, and so forth. Based on the lexical analysis of the vocabulary, this study focuses on the different contexts in which the concept of ‘oikonomia’ is interpreted and applied in some Jesus’ parables, some related passages of the Paulline letter, and further in the historical situation of the earliest church. The key ideas to be gleaned out from the discussion includes responsible stewardship, economy in fullness, and management in grace Thus, ‘oikonomia’ turns out to be a significant theological principle that accounts for, and break through the complicated reality of the current economy and business world. It also proposes a better alternative for social enterprise to survive in such a complicated reality, while consistently pursuing the public value for the majority of the participants in it.
