최근 일반학계와 교육현장에서 죽음에 대한 논의가 활발하게 제시되고 있다. 그러나 기독교계는 아직까지도 이에 대한 논의와 교육이 걸음마 수준에 머문 듯한 인상을 준다. 누구나 피하고 싶고, 꺼려지는 죽음에 대한 이해가 필요한 이유를 제시하고, 기독교윤리적인 시각에서 바람직한 죽음의 이해를 통해 잘 살기 위해, 잘 죽기 위해 죽음교육의 필요성이 요구된다. 존재하는 모든 것은 시작과 끝이 있다. 올바른 죽음 인식을 갖는다는 것은 죽음을 당연한 삶의 과정으로 받아들이고, 올바른 죽음을 맞이하기 위해 올바른 삶을 살아야 한다는 사실을 받아들이는 일이다. 자기의 올바른 죽음을 준비하기 위해 스스로의 삶을 지배해야 할 의무가 있지만, 자기의 것만큼이나 중요한 다른 이의 죽음을 준비하게 도와주어야 하는 배려의 의무도 있다. 죽음은 결국 어떻게 살아야 하는가의 문제다. 인간의 삶은 죽음과 맞닿아 있다. 죽음에 대한 단순한 회피나 죽음에 대해 끝도 없는 두려움은 건강한 삶을 방해한다. 더구나 문명의 발전으로 인한 뜻하지 않은 죽음이 언제 닥쳐올지 모르는 위험한 시대를 사는 우리에게, 죽음에 대해 준비를 갖추는 일은 현대인의 필수 윤리이다. 기독교적인 관점에서 죽음의 의미는 영원한 종말이 아닌 인간 삶의 완성이고, 보다 영원한 삶의 초대이며, 마지막 성장 단계이다. 이는 하나님의 인간 창조와 예수 그리스도의 고난의 십자가와 이를 극복한 부활 그리고 참된 신앙을 통해서 이루어지는 삶의 최종적인 열매이다. 그러므로 죽음을 두려워하고 거부한다는 것은 진정한 삶을 거부하고 무의미하게 할 위험스러운 태도가 된다. 누구에게나 실존적으로 다가올 죽음을 적극적인 자세에서 받아들이고 이를 풍요롭게 맞이하게 될 때, 인간은 보다 의미 있는 삶을 추구하게 되고 삶의 가치와 중요성을 인식할 수 있다. 죽음에 대한 교육은 단지 죽음의 순간에 대처하는 기술을 다루는 것이 아니라 오히려 전체적인 삶에 대한 관심이라고 할 수 있다. 바르게 삶을 영위하는 사람에게 바르게 죽음을 대비하는 지혜가 생겨지리라는 확신에서부터 죽음에 관한 교육은 시작되어야 한다. 인간은 죽음을 미리 개인적으로 체험할 수는 없으나, 죽음을 현실적인 문제로 생각하면서 삶과 죽음의 의미를 탐구하고, 자각을 가지고 죽음을 대비하는 마음가짐을 습득할 수 있을 것이다. 이것이 바로 죽음교육이며, 그것은 동시에 보다 좋은 삶을 위한 교육이기도 하다. 인간은 죽음에 대한 전 생애적인 교육을 통하여서 죽음을 이해하고 자신의 죽음을 하나님께 위탁하고 남은 삶 속에서 최선을 다하게 된다.
Abstract
Recently, there has been much debate on the true meaning of death in general academic and educational fields. However, the debate and argument on death give an impression that we need to work further than just first step in Christian world. Since most people hesitate to talk about death or even do not want to bring up the discussion with death. For this reason, one should give the reason why we need to understand the true meaning of death. In the view of Christianity, people should be educated how to accept and understand death for well-being as well as well-died. All the things have start and end. Recognizing on the meaning of death correctly helps people to think death is a part of circle. So, they live their lives in a right way for the right way of death. We have a kind of obligation on control our lives well for right death but at the same time we should help others to prepare Death eventually is the matter of how to live. Life of human being gets along with death. So, to consider on death too much severely effects on our lives. Besides, by development of civilization we feel that we need to foresee the future and prepare for death. With the point of view in Christianity, death does not mean the end but the completion of circle of life, invitation of eternal life and last step for growth. The life is from the bearing the cross and the resurrection. So, this is the definitive fruit of life given by God. Therefore, it can be a dangerous behavior that we deny our lives and feel fears for death. Those who accept the death in an active pace can rich and pursuit their lives in a meaningful way. Education about death does not only mean that we learn how to deal with the moment of death but it also means that we can pay attention to our lives at large. And it starts from the belief that people who have wisdom to prepare for death can retain right life. We cannot experience the death in real before it comes, but can consider the death as the subject we find meaning of life and a stimulus we prepare the moment of death in mind. This is the center of death education and for better life. Human can recognize the meaning of death through life for integrated education about and they can consign life to God by doing their best for the rest of life.
