세계화 시대 속의 소통과 해방 -아프리카 독립교회를 중심으로-

본 연구는 전 지구적 차원에서 진행 된 세계화(Globalization)의 영향이 AICs의 내용 및 외연확장에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤으며, 급변하는 시대적 상황 속에서 AICs가 아프리카 사회에서 사회․문화적 차원에서 어떻게 의미 있는 소통을 이루어 왔고, 또한 서구적 가치와 문화의 쇄도 속에서 아프리카인들의 정체성을 상실하지 않은 채 그것들로부터 자유로울 수 있는 해방을 맛보도록 이끌어 왔는지에 대한 연구이다. 본 연구를 통해 얻고자 하는 목표는 세상과 소통하는 기독교의 모습을 구현하는 것이다. 기독교는 소통의 종교이며 소통의 근본은 세상을 향하신 하나님의 사랑에 기초한 하나님의 말씀에 두고 있다. 예수의 십자가 사건으로 하나님과 인류는 다시 소통할 수 있게 되었고, 이것이 곧 기독교가 가지고 있는 사랑이고 용서이고 화해인 것이다. 그리고 이것들을 세상 속에서 선포하며, 전하며, 증거하고, 가르치며 실천하는 것이 참된 교회의 사명(mission)일 것이다. AICs는 아프리카 사회에서 유의미한 성장과 자리매김을 이루어왔고, 이는 아프리카인들과의 사회․문화적 소통을 이루어왔을 뿐만 아니라 지구시장화의 물결 속에서 강요되어지는 희생이라는 외적인 환경과 여건 속에서 정치-종교적 해방이라는 두 바퀴의 수레로 달려왔기 때문일 것이다. 아프리카 사회에서 AICs의 위치와 자리를 볼 때 한국교회는 한국사회에 어떤 모습으로 비춰지는지 자화상을 살펴보면 부끄러울 뿐이다. AICs가 고단한 삶을 강요당하는 아프리카인들에게 희망과 평안을 경험하는 곳이라면 과연 한국교회는 신도들에게 AICs와 같은 인정과 자리매김을 하고 있을까?과연 한국교회는 한국 교회와 의미 있는 소통을 하고 있으며, 한국교회는 영,육간의 해방의 메시지를 온전하게 선포하고 있을까? 혹 복음과 종교라는 이름으로 또 다른 굴레와 짐을 덧씌우고 있지는 않을까? 정말 한국교회는 세계관의 내적 갈등과 충돌 없이 예배를 드리며 신앙을 고백하고 있을까? 아니면 내적 갈등과 불일치를 행위와 율법적인 맹종과 강요로 덮고 있는 것이 아닐까?본 연구는 아프리카 사회에 소통과 해방의 모습으로 자리 잡고 있는 AICs를 통하여 한국교회의 자아성찰의 계기를 마련할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This Article proposes macro-structual explanations for the rise and development of African Independent Churches (AICs) in Southern Africa by reference to globalization theories. The concepts of World economy and world political culture are applied to the emergence of Zionist Christian churches in the Transkei region, to show how AICs can be linked to the global diffusion of the nation-state as the primary unit in the world division of labour and to ideas generated and accepted globally. The AICs has made great attempts to contextualize the gospel; a process which is reflected among other things in their church structures, in their calling to conversion and vocation, in their worship and in ritual life. The nucleus of the church consists of members with kinship ties. Dream, Vision and Ancestor are regarded as important channels of communication between the human and the divine. For them Faith healing, consolation ceremonies and Baptism are practices of special significance. It is here where the communication and liberation is in evidence. In this article, I would like to focus the ability of communication and liberation in AICs. These would be helpful for Korean churches to make themselves reflecting what they are doing and where they are going.
