Abstract

The cooperative is rooted on the Christian faith and spirit. Britain where the first movement of cooperative took place, France, Germany, Denmark and Italy are all Christian countries. And most of people who have created and developed the cooperative movement in these countries were Christian leaders or activists. However, while academic researches on the history of the public cooperative have progressed considerably, researches on the history of the Christian cooperative have rarely been done separately. This article had begun with the author's academic interest and question about this academic situation, and with a sense of responsibility that the study of the history of the Christian cooperative should begin from now on. Therefore, the contents of this paper are consisted of the history of Christian cooperatives. It has looked at the history of Christian co-operatives in Europe, the birthplace of cooperative, such as Britain, France, Germany, Denmark, Italy and Spain. In addition, in the process of the cooperative spreading to North America and Asia, we have looked at the history of the cooperative in Canada and Japan. This work has academic significance in that it has tried to research the history of Christian cooperatives. On the other hand, however, due to lack of data, there have been difficulties and limitations to write it. This article is the first try in the field to study about the history of the Christian Cooperatives, which is based on a general overview of it. I hope that this research will serve as an occasion for further research in this field in the future.
