Abstract

Globally, the refugee problem is a serious issue. Despite the fact that many refugees are wandering on land or seas, solutions from different countries does not reach consensus, and this also is the case in the Korean society, where different stances are taken by diverse classes, academic circles and religious views on the Yemen refugees in the Jeju-Island. The Korean Ministry of Justice expressed that it will reexamine the refugee system in general, while notifying people of the importance of the international responsibility that corresponds with the western society’s refugee policies along with the state’s endeavors for the realistic refugee policies, and it is requesting cooperation to the civil society and the religious circles. Concerning the status and the treatment of the refugees in the international and national societies, I understand that in the Korean Christianity, there is a stance that looks upon the refugees from viewpoint of love and human rights, and a negative perspective on the refugees with Islamic backgrounds, whereas, negative stance on viewing refugees from nationalistic perspective also exist. Under such circumstance where the Christian circles are unable to express clear stance on the refugee issue, this paper, keeping in mind of their abusive situations, will examine the role of the Christian theology and the task of the Christian ethics concerning the status and the treatment of the refugees. There are three theories which the paper will examine at large, and the first will organize the theories connected with the perspectives of the definitions regarding ‘refugee.’ Secondly, I will establish theories of the ‘theology of refugee’ from the theological perspective connected with the refugees. Thirdly, with regards to the ‘theology of refugee,’ I will make a proposal concerning the direction of the Christian theology, as both mission and task of the Christian ethics, which can overcome the international society’s violence.
