이 논문의 목적은 열왕기상 8장 전체의 최종본문 속에 나타난 열왕기 저자의 의도를 자세한 본문 주석을 통해 드러내고자 하는 것이다. 이 연구를 통해 열왕기상 8장의 교차 대구 구조에서 그 중심에 위치하는 솔로몬의 봉헌식 기도 본문(27-53절)과 그것을 둘러싼 성전 봉헌 기사(1-26절, 54-66절)는 일관되게 하나님의 언약적 신실성을 강조하고 있음을 드러낸다. 솔로몬의 일곱 가지 기도문은 이스라엘 백성들에게 성전의 유무에 상관없이 하나님의 언약적 신실하심을 의지하도록 격려하고 하나님의 백성으로 살 수 있다는 희망을 고취시킨다. 본 연구는 기도 본문(27-53절)의 중심은 단연 이방인의 기도(41-43절)라고 주장한다. 이것은 기도 본문의 형식적, 주제적 측면에서뿐만 아니라 8장 전체의 논리(특히, 54-62절)에 의해서도 지지받는다. 본 연구는 기도 본문을 특별히 기록하거나 편집한 신명기 역사가의 의도가 하나님이 선민인 이스라엘의 백성을 신실하게 돌보심으로써 결국 만민 가운데 하나님을 알리는 구원사적 사명을 고취하려는 것임을 밝힌다. 결론적으로, 열왕기상 8장은 포로기를 사는 하나님의 백성들에게 그들이 처한 상황에서 하나님의 언약 백성으로서의 정체성을 가지고 살도록 격려하면서 더 적극적으로는 이방인을 하나님께로 인도하는 선교적 책임까지 요구하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 따라서 열왕기상 8장은 포로기의 이스라엘 백성을 향한 하나님의 언약적 신실성을 드러내는 구약의 여러 근거 본문 중 하나로 인정된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to reveal the author's intentions in the final form of 1 Kings 8 as a whole through a detailed textual exegesis. This paper exegetically explores the text of Solomon’s temple dedication in 1 Kings 8. Solomon’s dedication prayer (vv. 27–53), which is at the center of the chiastic structure of 1 Kings 8, and the dedication narratives surrounding it (vv. 1–26, 54–66) consistently emphasize God’s covenantal faithfulness. Seven petitions of Solomon encourage the Israelites to rely on God’s covenantal faithfulness and inspire hope that they can live as God’s people, with or without the temple. This study argues that the petition for foreigners (vv.41–43) is the centerpiece of Solomon’s prayer. Not only the formal and thematic aspects of the prayer but also the logic of the whole chapter of 1 Kings 8 (especially vv.54–62) supports the argument. This paper attempts to reveal that the Deuteronomist (writer/editor of Solomon’s prayer) intended to show God’s faithful care for the Israelites and, eventually, the salvation-historical mission given to them to make God known to the nations. The goal behind 1 Kings 8 is to encourage God’s people in exile to live out their identity as God’s covenant people and to remind them of their missional responsibility to bring foreigners to God. Therefore, 1 Kings 8 is recognized as one of several foundational texts in the Old Testament that reveal God's covenantal faithfulness to the Israelites in captivity.
