20세기 후반 첨단과학기술이 등장하면서 ‘제4차 산업혁명’ 시대가 되었고, 이제는 챗GPT 시대를 살아가고 있다. 본 논문은 그것이 세계 복음화의 가장 큰 장애물인 이슬람 선교에 어떤 영향을 미칠까를 고찰하는 것이다. 특별히 무슬림들이 가장 중요하게 생각하는 그들의 공동체가 과학기술의 발달로 인해 일상화된 가상공간에서 지속적으로 유지될 수 있는지 살펴보고, 이런 시대적 변화에 따른 한국교회의 이슬람 선교 방향성을 모색해 보고자 한다. 여러 연구를 통해 볼 때, 온라인 가상공간이 이슬람의 움마 공동체를 대체하거나 그들의 정체성을 견고하게 할지 아니면 그 반대일지는 현 시점에서 단언하기 어렵다. 그러나 분명한 것은 이슬람에서도 자신들의 종교적 정체성을 확립하고 다음 세대를 교육하기 위해 이 가상공간을 적극 활용하고 있다는 것이다. 이슬람 내부에서도 이에 대한 의견이 분분하지만 무슬림들 대다수가 이 가상공간에 익숙해져 가고 있고, 또 그것을 적극 활용하기 위한 전략들을 세우고 있다. 그렇기 때문에 한국교회는 이 부분을 결코 간과해서는 안 된다. 지금까지 기독교의 이슬람 선교는 매우 제한적이었다. 그런데 최근 과학기술의 발달로 온라인 공간이나 인터넷을 통해 무슬림들에게 복음을 전할 수 있는 기회가 생겼다. 가상세계가 이슬람 선교의 또 다른 가능성을 제공해 주고 있는 것이다. 물론 온라인 공간이나 가상세계가 전적으로 기독교에만 유리한 기회를 제공하는 것은 아니지만, 그것을 최대한 활용한다면 이슬람 선교에 유용한 도구가 될 수 있다. 특별히 공동체를 강조하는 무슬림들에게 제3의 장소를 활용한 접근과 함께 온, 오프라인을 동시에 추구하는 혼합형태의 공동체를 추구하는 것이 효과적이다. 지금은 가상공동체의 필요와 그 가능성에 대한 관심이 높지만, 그것이 이슬람 공동체를 온전히 대체할 수는 없을 것이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 한국교회는 과학기술의 발전에 적절하게 대응하면서 무슬림들에게 복음을 전할 수 있는 기회를 만들어야 한다. 만약 그렇게 하지 못하면 기독교 선교에 하나의 커다란 위기가 될 것이다. 하나님의 형상으로 창조된 인간이 과학기술의 거센 파도를 두려워하거나 소모적인 논쟁으로 시간을 낭비해선 안 된다. 오히려 온라인 공간이나 가상세계를 최대한 활용해 무슬림들에게 복음을 전할 수 있는 전략을 적극적으로 모색해야 한다. 그것을 위해서는 우리가 살아가는 현 시대를 정확히 파악해야 한다. 그리고 시대에 적합한, 그러나 때로는 하나님이 주신 지혜를 가지고 거룩한 도전을 해야 한다. 그런 도전과 응전을 통해 이슬람의 거대한 장벽을 뚫고 들어가야만 우리는 남겨진 세계복음화의 과업을 완수할 수 있게 될 것이다.
Abstract
With the emergence of advanced science and technology in the late 20th century, we entered the era of the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution.’ Now, we are living in the era of artificial intelligence and ChatGPT. This paper examines how it will affect Islamic missions which is one of the biggest obstacles to world evangelization. For the purpose, the researcher focused on whether Islam ummah communities which are the most important in their religious life can be continuously maintained in a virtual space, a commonplace in the era of artificial intelligencein. The paper also tries to explore the direction of the Korean churches’ mission. It is difficult to say for sure whether this virtual space will replace the Islam ummah community. However, there is no doubt that Muslims are actively using the virtual space to fortify their religious identity and to educate their next generation. Even though there are differing opinions on this issue, the majority of Muslims are becoming familiar with this virtual space. In addition, they are eagerly developing strategies to utilize it. Korean churches must never overlook this trend. Until now, Christian mission acrivities in Islamic countries have been very limited. However, the development of science and technology is providing us various opportunities to spread the gospel for Muslims. It is not for only Christians. There can be a threat for them. Utilizing virtual space and Artificial Intelligence, however, can be useful tools for Islamic missions. Although virtual communities will not be able to completely replace the Islamic community, Korean churches must respond appropriately to the advancement of science and technology. For the purpose, Korean churches must utilize online and offline space together. If not, it will be a major crisis for Christian missions. Human beings, created in the image of God, should not be afraid of the strong waves of science and technology. Time should not be wasted with wasteful debates. Rather, Korean churches must actively develop effective strategies for Muslims. For it, we must accurately understand the current era and need to attempt a fresh challenge by God’s wisdom. Throughout those efforts, world evangelization which is the remaining task will be accomplished.
