Abstract

This study explores the social challenges faced by older adults in the digital transformation era and the super-aged society. Effective strategies to improve seniors' digital literacy and address digital aging challenges are essential. The application of music and artistic media, alongside digital technologies, should be grounded in a clinically validated, comprehensive, and integrated content framework that takes into account the health literacy of older adults. We introduce a neuropsychological wellness program aimed at improving cognitive function in older adults who are experiencing subjective cognitive decline. This program integrates virtual reality with therapeutic music and arts activities. Tests with 13 elderly individuals with dementia showed significant cognitive improvements, confirming the program's efficacy. The Memory Enhancement Contents for Virtual Reality (MEC-VR) model is based on four key principles of multisensory stimulation. It incorporates the systematic SORC Memory Enhancement Model, which consists of sensory arousal and attention (S), organization of memory (O), refinement of memory (R), and consolidation of memory (C). The MEC-VR and SORC memory enhancement models provide a sustainable theoretical foundation for the development of effective and therapeutic digital content utilizing the concept of digital music wellness program, taking into account the characteristics of neuropsychological degenerative brain diseases.
