Abstract

In this treatise, I studied the substance of lyrical identity of So-wol Kim’s poems in the mimetic theory. He achieved the lyrical identity through the mimesis of the idealized object. In So-wol Kim’s lyrical poems, mimesis is the method leading to the lyrical identity. In this case, the identity does not mean ‘identifying’, but ‘being identified’. In his early lyrical poems treating ‘the Nature’, the main Object is ‘the idealized mountain’. By mimicking ‘the idealized mountain’, he tried to achieve the soul relief of the individual, national, social life. ‘The idealized mountain’, the base of the national community is the principle of reuniting the destructed national, social, individual life. In his later poems, So-wol kim is mimicking the idealized agricultural community. This idealized agricultural community is based on the non-alienated labour. And the sound non-alienated labour is based on the communal possession of the land. The land is material base of the national community. The lyrical identity in So-wol Kim’s later poems is achieved by mimicking land. In conclusion, the lyrical identity of So-wol Kim’s poems is achieved not subject- centrally, but object-centrally. This reading in view of mimesis theory that emphasizes the objective and universal aesthetic consciousness can achieve moral progress by accentuating communal life in this destructive time.
