초록
We cannot find enough study results about Korean interjections. The current list of them seems like the remainders of word categorization. We can easily find many heterogeneous words in the list. It can be assumed that there may be errors in the categorizing system. So this paper tried to re-examine the list and re-categorize them. The criteria of re-examination and re-categorization are as follows. ① Interjections should have the same independence as sentences. ② Interjections should be indeclinable. ③ Interjections should not move into the sentences. When we apply these criteria to the current list of interjections, we can get following results. ① Words functioning as fillers like 'um', 'e', 'malici' should be separated from the others, because they lack independence. ② Some words considered to be derived from other word categories like 'manse', 'kray' cannot be interjections, due to lack of evidence. They should be regarded as members of the original categories like noun or adjective. ③ 'ani', 'kulsse', 'amuryem(am)' cannot be interjections. 'ani' should be regarded as an adverb of negation. 'kulsse' and 'amuryem(am)' should be regarded as adverbs of manner. Their meaning and syntactic features are the same as adverbs of negation and manner respectively. ④ The proper name of word category containing items that function as fillers should be 'kanthusa' which means 'filler' in Korean. ⑤ The proper name of word category for words that show emotions or will of the speakers can be named as 'yangthaysa' meaning 'modal word' or 'tokrip-yangthaysa' meaning 'independent modal word' in accordance with their meanings and syntactic features.
