초록
Videoconferencing has had great potential for years, but is only now realizing some of that potential with explosive growth in desktop videoconferencing and a burgeoning use of mobile videoconferencing. There is a real need to better understand the benefits and drawbacks of videoconferencing in general and, specifically, in regards to test validity. One potential threat to validity is anxiety, particularly with Korean language learners. Korean language learners have consistently been rated at or near the top of anxiety scales in cross-cultural analyses. This anxiety is a potential threat to the validity of language tests. Therefore, this study looks at the relationships between interview mode (videoconferenced and face-to-face), anxiety, and oral interview performance with 40 Korean university students. The participants were interviewed using each mode and were surveyed on perceived anxiety levels before, during, and after oral interviews. Findings indicate that there was no significant difference between performances in the two test modes, but there were relationships between the modes in regard to anxiety and performance.
