Abstract
The main purpose of this investigative study is to develop a conceptual framework for homework assignments as they relate to English listening skills of Korean students. Two sets of listening homework prototypes are developed based upon a modified version of Lund's (1990) function-response matrix for listening, considered by the researchers to be the most practical and systematic for the design of listening homework activities. The modified matrix includes six listening functions and seven responses, with each cell divided into two proficiencies--intermediate and advanced. Following advice from ESL/EFL experts regarding advantages of authentic materials for listening practice, Internet news clips are used in the prototypes as listening-homework passages.
