Error Analysis of Korean Language Learners from Russian-Speaking Countries-Focusing on Korean Passive Syntax

This study aims to analyze the errors in passive made by Korean language learners from Russian-speaking countries in order to find and provide an effective way to help them learn and acquire passive usage skills in Korean. `Passive' is one of the most difficult grammars for foreign learners. In this paper, the passive formation type, method, setting of the agent, and patient are compared and analyzed. Furthermore, Russian-speaking learners' errors of `passive' appearing in the corpus of Korean learners collected by the National Institute of the Korean Language are examined. This study found that most errors have been caused by confusing passive and active usage, and subject and object pronouns, which are caused by `interlingual interference'. As the learners' language competence improves, the errors caused by `intralingual interference' increase. More errors appeared for the advanced learners when using verbs such as `begin', `continue', and `finish'. This study would provide the Korean instructors with understanding of the students and apply these findings to their teaching.
