The fishing villages in Korea were generally under-developed with low income. About 20 years ago, the Bofil region was especially so for it was too far off from the mainland. However, today, this region is one of the most active and high income region among all the fishing villages in Korea. The average income of Bogildo is roughly 2~3 times the average Korean fishing village income in 2010. This marvelous change in Bogil region was achieved by effective combination of internal and external factors. In the analysis the internal factors came from homogeneous accumulation of fishing capital, and the excellent aquiculture technique that other regions lacked. External factors came from applying the caged-style-fish aquiculture technique to abalone aquiculture, and through the prosper and decline of other aquaculture commodities such as the black rockfish and sea mustard. The effective combination of these two factors brought the success of abalone aquiculture to Bogil island.
