Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the perception of scaling and related factors, factors affecting the correct knowledge and experience of scaling in Korea, and to analyze the importance of oral health behavior and systematic management methods to provide basic data for future oral health education program development and oral health promotion projects. During the study period from February to July 2025 a self-device entrance survey was conducted and 260 copies were distributed and collected using collective surveys, distribution surveys, and mail delivery and 260 copies were finally analyzed. For data analysis a frequency analysis was conducted for general characteristics and scaling-related characteristics using SPSS/Win 25.0 and x2-test was conducted for knowledge about scaling and multiple regression analysis was conducted to find out the factors affecting the scaling experience. According to gender the presence or absence of scaling experience was high at 87.6% in men, 95.3% in women and 96.4% and 84.2% in 20-29 and 30-39 years old, respectively and 83.3% in 40-49 years old and 91.5% in 50 years old or older. In the distribution by age group, the scaling cycle was high once a year for 20-29 years old, 30-39 years old, and 40-49 years old and once every 6 months for those over 50 years old. The reason why scaling is not done regularly is that in terms of gender men and women showed the highest response rate for lack of time and in the case of distribution by age group the highest response rate was found in all age groups. As for the knowledge of scaling, in the case of distribution by age group, 20-29 years old, 30-39 years old and 40-49 years old, the removal of dental plaque and tartar was the highest response rate for those over 50 years old. As for the knowledge of scaling in the case of oral health interest the removal of dental plaque and tartar was high and in general the treatment of grinding teeth was high and the absence of interest was high. Among the sub-variables influencing the scaling experience, gender, age, education level, oral health interest, and knowledge of scaling were found to have a statistically significant effect on the scaling experience. As a result of the above in order to prevent oral diseases of adults, it is considered that motivation is needed to spread the need for scaling in various ways, including the media so that regular scaling for the purpose of prevention can be performed. It is considered that the person in charge of scaling in dental hospital also needs to make efforts to ensure that the general public can receive the procedure comfortably without any inconvenience when experiencing scaling.
