Abstract

The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data to establish biomedical ethics consciousness based on desirable Christian worldview by identify and analyze the degree of their biomedical ethics consciousness for christian university students who will be in charge of health care field. The subjects were 280 students (health care major) from 2 christian universities in C city. To assess students’ consciousness of biomedical ethics, biomedical ethics measurement survey implicated via 9 categories and 49 questionnaires. The data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 program. The subjects’ general characteristic analyzed by real number and percentage, mean and standard deviation, and the degree of biomedical ethics consciousness analyzed by mean and standard deviation. degree of biomedical ethics consciousness according to the general characteristic analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, and Scheffe test. The mean of biomedical ethics consciousness was 2.93. In each category, the highest score was ethics consciousness for the right to life of fetus was 3.31, and the right to life of newborn baby was 3.29, transplant was 3.05, fetal diagnosis was 3.01, artificial insemination was 2.98, human biotechnology was 2.82, euthanasia was 2.75, artificial abortion was 2.45, and ethics consciousness of brain death was 2.35 which was the lowest. According to the general characteristics, students’ major and religious activity showed the differences which department of physical therapy students had significantly high ethics consciousness than department of EMT, and students who participate religious activities very hard had significantly high ethics consciousness than other students who did not participate ant religious activity. Morality or ethics consciousness is educated and trained, not innate ability. In a Christian university, medical ethics consciousness based on Christian worldview is required.
