기독교 대안학교 교사들이 인식하는 학교 공동체의 의미 탐색

이 글의 목적은 기독교 대안학교 교사들이 인식하는 공동체로서 학교의 의미를 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 이 연구는 다양한 유형의 기독교 대안학교에 근무 중이거나, 근무한 경험이 있는 여덟 명의 교사를 대상으로 질적 사례 연구를 수행하였다. 연구 결과, 연구 참여자 교사들에게 있어 기독교 대안 학교라는 ‘공동체’는 가치와 철학을 공유하는 장, 갈등과 문제를 해결하고 해결해야 하는 공간, 시간 이 빚어내는 자연스러운 산물이라는 의미가 있었다. 한편, 기독교 대안학교 교사들은 공동체의 이름 으로 나 자신의 존재와 정체성이 흔들릴 때, 삶의 지지기반인 동료 교사와 아이가 학교를 떠나는 경험 으로 인해, 그리고 공동체로서 학교의 이야기가 다음 세대로 전수되지 않을 때, 구성원들이 형성해 온 공동체의 의미가 무너질 위험에 직면하게 된다고 보았다. 이상의 연구 결과를 바탕으로 이 글은 기독 교 대안학교 교사들이 건강한 학교 공동체를 형성하기 위하여 공동체 차원에서 어떤 노력이 필요한 가에 관하여 논의 및 제언을 하였다.
Abstract
This article aims to explore the meaning of community that teachers of Christian alternative schools recognize. For this purpose, this study conducted a qualitative case study of eight teachers who have worked or had worked at various types of Christian alternative schools. As a results, for the teachers, the ‘community’ meant a field that shared common values and educational philosophy, a place where conflict and problems (must be) solved, and a natural product as time goes by. Also, findings include that a sense of community is tremendously shaken when the identity of teachers is threatened by the name of the community, when a colleague or a student, who are the supportive base of life, left a school, and when the school’ s narrative is not passed on to the next generation. Based on the findings, the article concludes with some suggestions to build a healthy community for Christian alternative schools.
