The performance of the ion source is critical for neutral beam injection. As a key component of the ion source, the accelerator extracts and accelerates ions from the plasma generator to the target energy. To achieve higher beam energy, a new accelerator with maximum beam energy of 120 keV was designed based on the original 80 keV multi-slit accelerator. The required grid gap modifications were analyzed using beam optics simulations. The accelerator was then integrated with a magnetic bucket plasma generator for performance evaluation. Simulation and test results demonstrate good consistency in evaluating the extraction capability. The optimum perveance of the 120 keV accelerator is approximately 1.66 × 10− 6 A/V3/2 with a beam divergence angle of 1.15◦, and it is expected to be able to extract a hydrogen ion beam of about 69 A at 120 keV. These results provide important benchmarks for ion source parameter matching
