Abstract
To study latent fingermark development methods, it is necessary to have a system that objectively evaluates the intensity of the fingermark. Therefore, a fingermark intensity measurement method was devised. Using a printer, the artificial latent fingermarks having known intensities were printed. Artificial latent fingermarks were developed with ninhydrin or DFO, and the development intensities were measured using the image histogram intensity measurement function of Photoshop, and correlation with the fingermark printing intensities and histogram intensities was confirmed. It can be seen that the histogram intensity decreases linearly as the area of the selected area decreases. In addition, the histogram intensity of each part after dividing one fingerprint into four quarters was measured, and the measured values of four parts were slightly different. This is a result of showing that the ridge distribution of one fingermark is not homogeneous. However, because the difference was not significant, the authors think that the fingermark splitting method is still a convenient and effective way to compare the sensitivity of various latent fingermark developing methods.
