코로나 19의 발생으로 인하여 한국불교는 사찰경영을 걱정한다. 걱정의 대부분은 종교 활동이 위축되면서 생겨나는 교단 재정의 감소다. 그러나 코로나 19가 발생한지 1년이 지나서 포스트 코로나를 대비하는 현재 시점에서는 불교의 종교적 기능을 근본적으로 고민해야 한다. 왜냐하면 인간의 생명까지도 위협하는 코로나의 공포는 종교로서 불교의 기능을 활성화시키는 요인이 되기 때문이다. 종교의 기능은 본래 인간에게 안녕과 행복을 제공해주는 것이고, 이는 붓다의 전도선언과도 맥을 같이하기 때문이다. 이에 본고는 포스트 코로나 시대에 사찰경영의 현안인 신행과 보시에 대한 해결 방안과 더불어 불교가 사회적으로 수행할 종교적 기능과 역할의 관점에서 사찰경영을 고민하고자 한다. 포스트 코로나 시대의 신행과 보시는 사이버와 온라인의 관점에서 모색될 것이다. 그리고 포스트 코로나 시대에 불교의 사회적·종교적 기능은 공공성 강화와 위로·안정 제공의 관점에서 모색될 것이다.
Abstract
Due to the outbreak of Corona 19, Korean Buddhism is concerned about the management of temples. Most of the worries are the decline in temple finances arising from shrinking religious activities. However, at the present time, one year after the outbreak of Corona 19, and entering the post-corona, Korean Buddhism must fundamentally consider the religious function of Buddhism. This is because the fear of Corona, which threatens even human life, can be a factor that activates the function of Buddhism as a religion. The function of religion is to provide well-being and happiness to human beings, because it is in line with the Buddha’s evangelism declaration. Therefore, this paper seeks to find solutions to the main concerns of Buddhist temple management in the post-corona era, such as life of faith and religious donation, as well as the religious functions and roles that Buddhism will perform socially. Life of faith and religious donation in the post-corona era will be explored from the perspective of cyber and online. And in the post-corona era, the social and religious functions of Buddhism will be sought from the perspective of strengthening publicity and providing comfort and stability.
