이 연구는 동화작가인 이영철(李永哲, 1909-1978)의 활동 가운데 특히, 깔깔학교⋅ 미련이나라⋅ 꾀주머니 동화집이 지닌 현대적 의미를 조명하는 데 목적이 있다. 해방 이후 이영철은 깔깔학교: 세계소화삼백선(1949)를 발행하였다. 이영철이 글벗집 출판사를 통하여 1949년부터 1981년까지 방정환이 만든 ‘깔깔소학교’의 명맥을 이어 나갔다. 전통사회의 소화(笑話)에서 시작된 ‘깔깔 웃음’은 방정환의 어린이 잡지에 이어지고, 이후 이영철에 의해서 1981년까지 그 명맥을 이어왔다. 이영철의 깔깔학교⋅ 미련이나라⋅ 꾀주머니 동화집은 다음과 같은 특징을 지닌다. 첫째, 이영철의 ‘깔깔웃음’은 동서양의 이야기를 두루 섭렵하고 있다. 둘째, 바보와 미련이 같은 이야기를 통해서 다른 사람의 실패를 되풀이하지 않는 사람이 되도록 협력하고 있다. 셋째, 지혜롭고현명한 이야기를 통해서 어려운 고비와 난관을 해결하는 사람이 되도록 돕고 있다. 이영철의 깔깔학교⋅ 미련이나라⋅ 꾀주머니 동화집은 현대 어린이들에게 미련한 사람과 지혜 있는 사람의 말과 행동 사건을 통하여 직접 사회와 소통하고 나아가야 할 방향을 제시하고 있다. 이에 깔깔학교⋅ 미련이나라⋅ 꾀주머니 동화집이 지닌 현대적 의미를 찾을 수 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to shed light on the modern meaning of the children’s books Kkalkkal school, Country of fools, Bag of wisdom among the activities of the fairy tale writer Lee Yeong-cheol(1909-1978). After liberation, Lee Yeong-cheol published Kkalkkal School: 300 World Story(1949). Lee Yeong-cheol continued the life of ‘Kkalkkal School’ created by Bang Jeong-hwan from 1949 to 1981 through the publishing house of Writings. The ‘laughter’ that started from the digestion of the traditional society was followed by Bang Jeong-hwan’s Children magazine, and later by Lee Yeong-cheol, it was continued until 1981. Lee Yeong-cheol’s fairy tale collections such as Kkalkkal school, Country of fools, Bag of wisdom have the following characteristics. First, Lee Yeong-chul’s ‘Laughter’ covers all the stories of the East and the West. Second, fools and lingering cooperate to become people who do not repeat other people’s failures through the same story. Third, through wise and wise stories, it helps people to solve difficult hurdles and difficulties. Lee Yeong-chul’s collections of fairy tales such as Kkalkkal school, Country of fools, Bag of wisdom show modern children the direction to communicate with society directly and move forward through the words and actions of fools and wise people.
