초록
Objective: This study aimed to investigate how the clinical learning environment and experiences of incivility during clinical practice influence the professional self-concept of dental hygiene students. Methods: A survey was administered to 180 dental hygiene students in the Chungcheong region, and the data collected were analyzed. Results: Higher levels of satisfaction with the major and clinical practice were associated with a more positive clinical learning environment and reduced incidence of incivility. Students with higher academic grades, greater satisfaction with their major, and exposure to more experienced clinical instructors demonstrated higher levels of professional self-concept. There exists a negative correlation between the clinical learning environment and incivility, and a positive correlation between the clinical learning environment and professional self-concept. Clinical learning environment and major satisfaction emerged as factors influencing professional self-concept, explaining 37.5% of the variance. Conclusions: A positive perception of the clinical learning environment affects professional self-concept. Therefore, the development of health education programs aimed at enhancing the clinical education environment for dental hygiene students, alongside specific strategies to bolster major satisfaction, is essential for fostering a robust positive professional self-concept.
