이 연구는 두 가지 분석을 통해 범죄 두려움에 영향을 미치는 요인에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 우선 범죄발생 지역과 범죄 두려움을 느끼는 지역을 비교 하여 환경적 요인에 따라 인지하는 범죄 두려움이 실제 범죄발생과의 관련성 을 살펴보고자 하였고, 이를 통해 범죄 두려움에 미치는 환경적 요인을 살펴 보고자 하였다. 두 번째는 기존의 이론적 논의에서 주장하는 범죄 두려움에 영향을 미치는 요인의 영향을 경험적으로 검증하고자 하였다. 범죄 두려움을 느끼는 지역의 환경적 요인으로는 사회적 무질서와 물리적 환경이 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 사회적 무질서는 주로 야간의 취 객이나 외국인의 일탈, 혹은 노숙자로 나타나고 있었다. 물리적 환경은 골목 길, 어두운 조명, 사람들의 인적이 드문 곳, CCTV의 부재 등으로 나타났다. 범죄 두려움에 영향을 미치는 개인적, 지역적, 그리고 범죄피해 요인에 대 해 경험적으로 검증한 결과, 범죄 두려움에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 요인은 개 인적 요인인 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
A considerable number of studies related to environmental design for crime prevention for educational facilities have been carried out. However, many of them are less focused on elementary schools. In this regard, this study aims to present directions in designing safe elementary schools. First, the survey on spaces where elementary school students feel fear of crime shows that they feel on-campus outdoor spaces such as paths, spaces between buildings, and parking areas more unsafe than indoor spaces such as classrooms, activity halls, and corridors. Second, the result of the survey of teachers and parents indicates that they share an idea that toilets, dressing rooms, entrances to the building, and parking areas are the spaces that need to be designed more safely. Third, this study shows that the most important design element is mechanical surveillance. And finally, the result of the factor analysis shows that access control to the campus, access control to the building, and surveillance are the important factors in designing safe elementary schools.
